WEG has purchased a third location in Washington, MO for a $16.5 million manufacturing expansion. This new facility is less than a mile from both existing factories, and will become the new main office of WEG Transformers USA. The attached 147,000 sq. ft facility will be dedicated to the manufacturing of three-phase utility pad-mounted distribution transformers through 2,500 kVA 34.5 kV max.
We will operate [the new Distribution Transformer facility] with a high degree of smoothness and effectiveness by utilizing a Continuous Flow style of manufacturing and by reducing disruptions to the process. We will utilize Lean Manufacturing techniques and focus intently on Waste Reduction and Continuous Improvement. We are bringing in a lot of new equipment, highlighted by a new automated way to fill and degas units that will cut the process time by nearly 20 hours…It truly will be a world-class facility!

A few departments have already been transferred to the new office space. We are anticipating to start a pilot production in Q3 2021. During this time we project to have a heavy ramp up as we transfer utility production from one plant to another. Furthermore, this expansion will allow WEG to expand the current facility, at “One Pauwels drive”, for the production of heavy duty pad-mounted transformers, secondary unit substations, and station units through 10,000 KVA 35kV.
We would like to thank all our customers for their patience and support during this time. This move will significantly reduce lead times for both plants, as capacity at each will greatly expand. These expansions will enable WEG Transformers USA to improve servicing our current/future customer base in the utility, renewable, and C&I markets.
